2nd grade College and Career Readiness learning opportunities.................

Below is the book on video for my 2nd grade students pertaining to College and Career Readiness.  Please enjoy it as a family (if possible) and use the included papers as conversation starters together.

We've learned together that:

We work to earn money to buy the things we NEED ~ shelter, food, clothing. *If we have enough money left over, we might be able to buy something we WANT.*

JOB is something we do to earn money to buy what we NEED ~ this often is often a short time...maybe up to 7 years.

CAREER is something we do to earn money to buy what we NEED ~ this often is for a long period of time....usually 7 or more years.

It is important to remember that you might change your mind a whole lot before you even get to high school as to what you might want to be or the problems you want to solve when you get older. It is OKAY to change your mind. That is why we start talking about this subject now, so you have lots of time to figure it all out!



Think about what problems you might want to solve when you get older........what shoes will YOU wear? You could draw a picture, write a story, or even dress up as your future self doing that job!

Regardless of which career path your child follows, having the following attributes or skills will help them succeed:



All jobs are placed in clusters or under certain titles......here is a list of Career Clusters.  Your child could share what they want to be when they get older and then research which Career Cluster it falls under:
