1st grade Lesson 2............Learning About Our Brains

Our first lesson together is about learning the parts of our brain and what they do for us. The students enjoyed this video together and then we discussed the parts of our BRAIN.

*The credits for the video go to Mrs. Goff for sharing the information and Carlie Connor for taking the lead role!*

Prefrontal Cortex – the boss of my brain; the wise leader

We talked about how our classroom is like our brain and the teacher is the prefrontal cortex; the wise leader works with each of us in order to create the classroom community!

Amygdala – the emotions of my brain; the security guard

Hippocampus – the memory center of my brain; stores my memories
We also talked about some IMPORTANT rules for class lessons, home, school, sports, etc.
Respect others. GOLDEN RULE ~ treat others the way you want to be treated.
Be kind.
Listen when someone is speaking.
Take turns speaking.
Ask questions when you are curious or confused.
Stay focused on your own work when the teacher is working with others.
Celebrate everyone’s accomplishments.

Let's use our WHOLE BRAIN each day!
Please be sure to ask your child about our lesson this week!

Germ experiment...........

I did an experiment to help show the kids how quickly germs can spread from our hands to other items........and why it is so very important ...
