During this lesson, we are talking about Neurons, Dendrites, and Axons!
The Dendrites = receives messages and the Axon = shuttles messages with our Neurons to the different parts of our brain.
Activity:
Your body = neuron
Your left hand = dendrites
Your right hand = axon
~ when I say GO, you
will try passing the orange
ball from your right hand to
your left hand AND
then to your neighbor’s right hand
~ just keep doing this until I say STOP
Conversations or discussions afterwards:
~ Do you think this would get easier with
practice?
~ How do you think this might work with
our brain when it is sending messages?
NEXT:
~ Look around the room…….
How did you know these answers without touching the objects?
The neurons send messages from our eyes to our Hippocampus (where our memories live) which then allows us to know the answers because if we have already learned this information, it is stored in our brains and we can access it.
The messages are sent between the parts of our brain and body by the neurons with help from the axons and dendrites!
