The Band Aid Chicken is the story our 1st graders are enjoying, while the 2nd graders are enjoying Stand in My Shoes.
The Band Aid Chicken is about having the courage to stand up when you think people are being treated badly or you don't like what is happening around you. Being able to understand how someone feels or how it might feel to have a certain feeling helps us to better understand the word EMPATHY; helping others give us this understanding.
Stand in My Shoes is about being able to truly understand how someone feels, even if you've never experienced that feeling or situation before; just noticing how someone might feel is being kind to others and being helpful.
Here are some of the insights that were shared during my lessons, thus far:
"I think there is an expression that goes along with this word and it is put yourself in my shoes ~ and I think it means to try and really understand how that person might be feeling."
"I think it means that someone might be sad and then you kind of know how they might be feeling if you've ever been sad before."
"I think we have to do a better job at not just being a by-stander and start helping our friends more when they need it."
"I think the more people tell others how they feel, the better we all will feel."
