Project Back-Pack is a program that enables the
school counselor (Ms. Mazzella) to send home non-perishable food items once a
month with students and families that are in need.
The donations
assist in getting families over the hump and making ends meet during the month.
The program also enables me to help with holiday gifts from Santa, winter wear
(hats, gloves, boots) and school supplies, Valentine’s, etc., should there be a
need.
About 6
years ago, I wrote a grant to start this program never knowing how the economy
was going to change at that time. Since then, various community agencies and
individuals have continued to support the program, as they have seen the value
in it for our families.
I am beyond
blessed with the support I continue to receive, which allows me to assist and
support families that need a little extra help each year. Currently, I have 12 families
that I help monthly. Within those families, there are 47 children ranging in
age from 3 to 17.
