Community Helper lessons at Miller............

To prepare for our upcoming 14th Annual Vehicle Day at Miller, the students and I spent some time together learning about community helpers.

During our first lesson, we talked about what a community helper is and what jobs they may do around us ~

A community helper is someone who does a job that helps all of us.

We also took some time to discuss what problems the students may want to solve or what they want to be when they grow up. Here are some ideas they shared:

Rock Star/Singer
Gemologist
Scientist
Race Car Driver
Teacher
Ballerina
Police Officer
Fire Fighter
Spy
Baker
Football Player
Basketball Player
Chef
Video Game Maker
You Tuber

We talked about the fact that we may change our minds a whole lot of times before we grow up as to what we might want to be when we grow up. We might even change our minds when we are adults......and all of this is okay!!

During the second lesson, we enjoyed the following book together:

We also talked about why we work:

to earn money to pay for the things we NEED ~ food, shelter, clothing and our bills. If we have enough left over, we might be able to buy something we WANT.

The students also had the opportunity to draw a picture and label what they want to be when they grow up.

Germ experiment...........

I did an experiment to help show the kids how quickly germs can spread from our hands to other items........and why it is so very important ...
