2nd grade lessons on Jobs and Careers ..................

Together we are learning about WHY we need to work:

to earn money to pay for the things we NEED ~ food, shelter, clothing and our bills. If we have enough left over, we might be able to buy something we WANT.

We talked about the difference between a JOB and a CAREER:

a JOB is something we do to earn money, which may be for a short period of time.
a CAREER is something we do for a long period of time.

We enjoyed the following book together:

After listening to or watching the book together, we talked about THE BIG LIST and how these are SKILLS that our teachers and parents are helping us to learn everyday:

The book also mentioned CAREER CLUSTERS, so we briefly discussed what those are:

We talked about goals and why we need to set goals:

We set goals to try and get better at something or to have a plan!

We talked about the things we like and don't like.........I shared with the students that it is important to think about our likes and dislikes when we start to think about the problems we want to solve when we get older or what we might want to do when we get older.

Some of the jobs the students shared with me that they are interested in are listed below:

Mom
Dad
Babysitter
Video Game Maker
Scientist
Orthopedic Surgeon
Pediatrician
Chemist
Architect
Paleontologist
Engineer
Construction Worker
Someone who helps the homeless find homes
Veterinarian
Zoo Keeper
Teacher
Artist

Germ experiment...........

I did an experiment to help show the kids how quickly germs can spread from our hands to other items........and why it is so very important ...
