CES ~ Lesson 15 - YOU are in charge!..............

YOU are in charge!

Be careful not to flip your lid!

All the parts of my brain are connected and working together. It is almost like the upper part of my brain is hugging my amygdala and it feels safe; my pre-frontal cortex is doing it's job and in charge! I am in control!

My amygdala doesn't feel safe any longer and my pre-frontal cortex isn't in charge. I can easily 'flip my lid' and my emotions may get really big. I am not in control!

YOU are in charge OR in control ~ we reviewed what we have learned together:
1.)  Where do my memories live? - the hippocampus

2.)  Where do my feelings live? - the amygdala

3.)  What helps make connections in my brain? - the neurons

4.)  What does the RAS stand for? What does it do? - the reticular activating system; it acts like a filter to strain out the things I need to do my job as a student and blocks the things that might stop me from learning

5.)  Who is in charge of my brain? - I am in charge

6.)  Where is the BOSS of my brain? What is it's job? - the pre-frontal cortex; it helps me to pay attention, focus, listen, learn and do my jobs

7.)  What are some ideas I can use to calm my body and brain? - take a deep breath; ask for help; squeeze my hands together; when sitting on the floor or in a chair, I can push my hands down for pressure; punch a pillow at home; take a nap at home; do something else to distract my mind

8.)  Which part of my brain sometimes likes to try and take control? - my amygdala

9.)  Is there a connection between how fast or slow I am breathing and my brain? Explain.- if my breathing is fast, it might mean that my body is running fast because I might be worried, scared, playing at recess, participating in PE or excited about something; I need to be able to calm my body and brain and be ready to do my jobs

10.)  What are the axon and dendrites job in my brain? - the axon drives the messages between the neurons and the dendrites catches the messages when they arrive at the neurons

11.)  Can smells and tastes affect my brain? - smells or tastes that I like can help me to focus on what I am doing; things I do not like might distract me from doing my jobs

12.)  What does it mean to be reflective? - taking a minute to reset my brain

Germ experiment...........

I did an experiment to help show the kids how quickly germs can spread from our hands to other items........and why it is so very important ...
