Kindness lesson for 1st and 2nd grades ~

My 3rd lesson in the classroom is on KINDNESS. For this lesson, I have the students share things that they someone can say or do that may be mean or unkind. While they are saying these things, I squeeze the toothpaste out of the tube and their teacher wrinkles the paper heart.

These visuals help to demonstrate that we cannot take our words or actions back. Our mean words or actions can put wrinkles on our friend's (or anyone's) heart. I then have the students share kind things that they can do or say to their friends while trying to smooth out the heart and getting the toothpaste back into the tube........neither will work.

We start with a smooth heart but slowly the wrinkles fill it up because of unkind words and actions.

No matter how hard we try, we cannot get the toothpaste back into the tube.......just like the fact that once we say the words, we cannot take them back.

We talk about when someone hurts our feelings it puts a wrinkle on our heart.

Germ experiment...........

I did an experiment to help show the kids how quickly germs can spread from our hands to other items........and why it is so very important ...
