Career Lessons at Craddock ~

This year instead of asking the students 'what they want to be when they grow up', I started concentrating on asking the students 'what problems do they want to solve when they get older'?

It makes my heart very happy that the students were able to make the connection of telling us what they want to do when they grow up AND what problems they will be able to assist with by following this path.

We talked about goals in both 1st and 2nd grades, as well as the fact that their desire to solve certain problems may very well change many times before they even graduate from high school!

*For our 1st grade lessons, we listened to and discussed the following book:
How Santa Got His Job

We also talked about the difference between a job and a career. A job is something we do to earn money to pay for things that we need, such as food, shelter and clothing; a career is a job you do for a long period of time or for many years.

*For our 2nd grade lessons, we listened to and discussed the following book:
What Shoes Will You Wear
We also talked about the difference between a job and a career. A job is something we do to earn money to pay for things that we need, such as food, shelter and clothing; a career is a job you do for a long period of time or for many years.

This book also shared the qualities that each of us need in order to make a positive impact with our chosen path. This is a new book in my library this year and I really like it! The students know that Julia Cook is one of my favorite authors!!!

Some of the possible job or career ideas the students shared are as follows:

Chef, Architect, Teacher, Pipe Welder, Zoo Keeper, Veterinarian, Archaeologist, Author, Professional Sports Player,  Plumber, Restaurant Owner, Pop Singer, Clothing Designer, Inventor, Astronaut, Web Page Designer, Engineer and Train Conductor ..... just to name a few!

Craddock's Career Week is May 2nd - 6th ~
If you would like to share what you do with your child's class, please contact their teacher directly.

Germ experiment...........

I did an experiment to help show the kids how quickly germs can spread from our hands to other items........and why it is so very important ...
