(1-29-16) Most class lessons will be wrapping up within the next few weeks. We will then concentrate on jobs and careers during my visits for the next round of them! Listed below is what we continue to work on together:
Kindergarten ~ We continue to discuss the difference between tattling and telling and enjoyed the following video together:
We also started reviewing the topic of bullies and what the Bully Busters taught us in October.......if someone says something mean to me or bumps into me without apologizing, that doesn't make them a bully; it is a not nice friend choice, but it doesn't make them a bully. A bully is someone who may bother me over & over again and doesn't stop even after I ask them to. We read the book 'Chester the Raccoon and the Big Bad Bully' together.
We watched the following video and reviewed who could be a bully, what to do if someone is bothering us, etc. (They LOVED this video!!!):

We shared why it is important to listen and enjoyed the book "Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen" via the SmartBoard:

We also discussed that listening and following directions can be hard, but with practice, we can become experts at it! The students shared what your body should look like when you are listening:
1.) Eyes are on the speaker
2.) You are usually sitting criss-cross applecause, with your hands in your lap
3.) Your body should be quiet and still, with your voice off
4.) You should raise a quiet hand if you have a question or want to share an answer
1st grade ~ We continue to discuss the difference between tattling and telling and enjoyed the following video together:

Bully B.E.A.N.S ~
B. = Bullies
E. = Everywhere
A. = Are
N. = Now
S. = Stopped
During our classrooms lessons, all students will make their own Bully B.E.A.N.S. These special beans (glass stones) will hopefully remind the students that they have the power to stand up for themselves and others!

In the book, the characters eat Bully B.E.A.N.S. (jelly beans) that they believe give them the courage or power to stand up for themselves and/or others. Since we have so many allergies, we are using the small glass stones in a bag for the same concept instead of jelly beans.

We learned about perseverance (never giving up). We shared that sometimes things will be hard, but we have to keep trying. If we stop trying, we aren't helping our brain to grow!!!
We read "Big Al" and watched the following video together:

We are working on understanding that it is okay to make a mistake; mistakes are proof that we are trying! Together we enjoyed the book "The Girl Who Never Made a Mistake".
I will finish up with a lesson on empathy and we will read "The Band-Aid Chicken" together.
2nd grade ~ We continue to discuss perseverance and how it is our responsibility to keep going or keep trying.
We also reviewed the difference between tattling and telling and enjoyed the following video together in order to help remind us what the difference between tattling and telling is:

We worked on the importance of listening and following directions. We shared that it can be very hard to do both and it takes practice to become experts at it! Together we enjoyed the book "The Worst Day of My Life Ever!"
We reviewed the word bully, what it means, who can be a bully, what the words bully, victim and by-stander mean. Together we enjoyed "Enemy Pie" together!
We are currently working on taking ownership or responsibility of our choices and such. We are reading "But It's Not My Fault" and discussing it together.
We will then discuss empathy and enjoy "Stand in My Shoes" and finish up by concentrating on goals.
