Empathy ~

Empathy is about seeing through others eyes, hearing through others ears and feeling with others hearts!
Our 1st grade students will enjoy the book "Stand in My Shoes" this week while learning about empathy.  To help reinforce this topic, we will do an experiment with a white rose, water and food coloring. In the showcase near the cafeteria at Craddock is where our experiment will be on display. This is what the students will witness occur in the transformation of the white rose:


                                                                     
My goal is to assist the students in 'seeing' how working together, cooperating, being respectful and being a team can create a beautiful thing!

Each petal on the rose is a separate part that together creates a lovely white rose . . . when the water and food coloring works together (as a team), it creates this beautifully different colored rose!  Now since this rose looks different, it may not be accepted by everyone, but since we all know how to show respect, make responsible choices, understand differences, have a positive attitude, work as a team and realize how other people might be feeling, empathy will be formed!
